About Us

The Shop Where the Advice Isn't on Commission.

Independent since 2014 — a fitting studio, a pre-owned program with a written standard, and a build shop that measures instead of estimates.

Our Story

Started in a two-bay unit. Still obsessed with the same numbers.

Fairway & Iron opened in 2014 with two fitting bays, one launch monitor, and a bet: that Scottsdale golfers would pay for honest fitting data if the fee came off their clubs and the fitter had no reason to push one brand over another. Twelve years and about nineteen hundred fittings a year later, that's still the whole business model.

The pre-owned program grew out of the fitting bays — golfers kept upgrading and asking what to do with the old set. So we wrote a certification standard: face integrity checked, lofts and lies measured back to spec, fresh grip, written grade on the tag, 30-day guarantee. The trade-in wall now turns over weekly, and half our first-time customers walk in because of it.

What hasn't changed: your clubs get tested first, your spec sheet is yours to keep, and nobody here earns a commission from any club brand. That's the shop.

The Team

Three People, One Standard.

Marcus Whitfield

Owner & Master Fitter

Founded Fairway & Iron in 2014 after a decade fitting on tour vans, on one rule: the fitter works for the golfer, not the brand. Runs the driver and iron bays, and still baselines every fitting against your current clubs first.

Dana Okafor

Fitter & Junior Program Lead

Runs junior set builds and the beginner fitting program — the 'nine clubs and lessons' philosophy on our blog is hers. If your kid's clubs actually fit, Dana is probably the reason.

Ray Castillo

Trade-In & Build Shop

Grades every trade-in against the written certification standard, runs the loft/lie machine, and builds every custom order in-house. The reason 'built to spec' here means measured, not estimated.

How We Work

Three Rules on the Wall of Every Bay.

The Baseline Rule

Your current clubs get tested first, every time. If new gear can't beat them meaningfully, we say so — and you keep your money.

No Brand Commissions

The fitting fee is our incentive structure. No fitter here earns a bonus for steering you to any brand's rack.

Everything Guaranteed

New or certified pre-owned, every club leaves with a 30-day playability guarantee. If it doesn't work on the course, bring it back.

From the Fitting Bay

Golfers Who Stopped Guessing

I came in convinced I needed the newest driver. Marcus put my gamer on the monitor first, beat it by one yard with the shiny one, and told me to keep my driver and spend the money on a wedge fitting instead. That's why I only buy here now.

Rob T.Driver & wedge fitting, Scottsdale

Traded in my old irons, got the quote in ten minutes, and put the credit toward a certified pre-owned set that had been checked and regripped. Six months in they still feel like new clubs at half the price.

Priya S.Trade-in & pre-owned irons

They built my son's first junior set sized to his height instead of selling us cut-down adult clubs, and explained the trade-up credit for when he grows. It's the kind of advice you don't get at a big-box store.

Ready to stop guessing at your specs?

Book an hour in the fitting bay, or bring in your old clubs for a same-day trade-in quote — the fitting fee and your trade credit both go toward whatever ends up in your bag.
